There's Portchester Castle, just a short drive from Port Solent, anhistorically important Norman Castle ruin right on  the waters edge, it stands in one corner of a large Roman fort. The walls of the fort, built in the last quarter of the third century, are said tobe the most complete in Northern Europe;

Or just take a wander into Old Portsmouth, a very quaint area of thecity with some great pubsand places to eat.From here you can take a walk along the Castle Ramparts and continue on to a great walk along the seafront to Southsea.  There are two piers to choose from and some other great sites and interesting places to visit.
